A gathering at the A27 Memorial Garden 14 11 2024.
"Though our hearts are heavy with the weight of remembrance, your presence today has been a source of comfort and strength. In this shared space of grief and love, thank you for joining us at The A27 Memorial Garden to honour those who lost their lives. Your being here has made this day a little brighter, and your support means more than words can express.... "
Poems read
"We Can Remember", by former student Blake Waddington
We can remember
We can remember why the bridge was built
We can remember their names
We can remember how they died
We can remember that they are gone; but they are still here
In our minds and hearts
The reason we can remember is this bridge
Our life support
We can remember that the bridge saved many
We can remember how we are lucky and alive
We can remember them
We can remember.
"Solid", by a Staff Member
Solid it stands to serve
For those who want to walk over
Solid, in solace for those who didn't get to.
"Parting Gift", by Casey and Beth, former students
They were 10 who died and many cried
Their friends never got to say their last goodbyes
But most of all those that lost their lives
Got us this bridge that helps us to survive.
There was a fourth poem written for the event and read too. It is only on paper at present but if we can transcribe it we will add it to the post later.
A big thank you to
Mr Davies, Assistant Principal who spoke, Mr Sanderson, Chaplain for the Eulogy and Prayers and students reading poems.
To local District and Parish Councillors attending.
To friends and relatives of those affected.
To former MP Tim Loughton for successfully campaigning with local residents for the bridge that was built in 2003 that makes crossing the road safe.
To the Keep Lancing Lovely volunteers and others who tidy and maintain the garden.
The garden is where Upper Boundstone Lane joins the A27 just north of The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, just below the footbridge. It helps us remember the eleven adults and children who died in road traffic accidents in our immediate area, including five from the former Boundstone Community College.

09 11 2024 In the heart of Lancing this morning, where industry once thrived, a solemn gathering commemorated the fallen heroes of the Lancing Carriage Works, some 93 men who lost their lives fighting for King and Country in WW1 and WW2.
These brave souls, who traded their tools for arms, selflessly defended our nation, their sacrifice etching their names into the annals of history. Three of those heroes had family members with us, bearing the weight of their absence, standing proudly, sharing stories of their courage. We who gathered recognised that their loss is a shared loss, a poignant reminder of the price of freedom. The legacy of these ordinary men who performed extraordinary deeds is forever etched in the collective memory. Their fight for liberty remains the foundation of the peace and prosperity we enjoy today. Amongst all those victims today we particularly remembered Clifford Henry Snuggs, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, RAF Aircraftman 2nd class, Private Herbert John Clist, and Private Harold Dray. It was moving to see the "Dedication of Plaques" paperwork from 74 years ago. If you know any of these men or families please share those details on here. Thank you. #KeepLancingLovely

Thursday 14th November 2024 at 1015am A gathering at The A27 Memorial Garden The garden commemorates 13 lives lost, young victims of road traffic accidents on local roads in the past. It is behind railings where Upper Boundstone Lane joins the A27 on the Lancing/Sompting border, in the shadow of the pedestrian bridge built in 2003 following a campaign by the then M.P. Tim Loughton, family relatives and member of the local community. Following a welcome, poems will be read by students from the nearby Sir Robert Woodard Academy, The Principal Kieran Scanlon will speak and The Chaplain, Paul Sanderson will say a Eulogy and prayer. There will be an opportunity for the family and friends of victims to tell us about their memories and loss. If the weather is poor we will gather in The Chapel at The Academy
27 10 2024 A busy weekend for the team and volunteers with two very contrasting weather days!
Saturday was rather wet and cool for the Lancing Village Halloween Trail and Market but all the hard work of the stallholders, support staff, Councillors, shopkeepers and businesses and especially the families taking part in the Halloween Costume Parade made everyone feel warm and cosy. Well done!
Sunday was gloriously sunny for our last Sunday of the month beach litter pick. What a turnout we had, our biggest of the year to date, 33 adults 17 children 2 dogs; litter collected 4kg recycled 20.4kg landfill. Lots of new faces and children litter picking for the first time!
Beach Green was very, very busy this morning with local running events starting/finishing plus their supporters watching.
A big Shout Out to Faith who created the brilliant artwork that you can see in the photos, a real talent there and thank you. Don't Litter - how we agree!
Our supporters over the weekend have been very generous with £38.50 in donations for our Halloween knitted items. A big thanks to the wonderful Keep Lancing Lovely knitters who created them for us!
Do not forget that Tuesday, 29th October we have a Tidy Tuesday event on the beach. Come along between 10am and Noon to borrow our kit to do your own litter pick. Bring your family along and maybe a picnic for afterwards? You can take part in our Treasure Hunt too. Look for the Keep Lancing Lovely team near the toilet block on Beach Green!
