Keep Lancing Lovely Launches The Lancing Blue Plaque Railway Heritage Trail in May 2025
Keep Lancing Lovely is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Blue Plaque Railway Heritage Trail on Saturday, 24th May at 10:00 am. This exciting initiative will celebrate the lives and contributions of six remarkable individuals who played a vital role in the history of Lancing’s railway, either at the Lancing Carriage Works or Lancing Station. Keep Lancing Lovely has been allocated 6 out of the 200 plaques allocated nationally that have been created to remember those who were associated with the railway and gave service.
The trail will feature specially designed blue plaques displayed at various businesses throughout Lancing village and at Lancing Railway Station itself. These plaques will honour the memories of these local heroes, offering a glimpse into their lives, their work, and their impact on the community.
Visitors are invited to embark on a self-guided tour of the trail by picking up a dedicated leaflet available from Lancing Railway Station from 10:00 am on Saturday, 24th May. The leaflet will provide a map of the plaque locations and insightful details about each of the six individuals being commemorated.
For those wishing to explore the trail as a group, Keep Lancing Lovely will also be hosting an organised walk commencing from Lancing Railway Station at 10:30 am on the launch day. This guided tour will offer a more in-depth look at the stories behind each plaque and the historical context of Lancing’s railway heritage. The tour will end with a chance to buy a cuppa or a drink at The Beach Green Hotel on Lancing seafront.

24 04 2025 A marvellous day this week at 10 Downing Street for Keep Lancing Lovely's Wendy Peters! Wonderfully well deserved recognition of her many years of supporting the local community. Our M.P. Tom Rutland writes "I had the privilege of welcoming Wendy from Keep Lancing Lovely to 10 Downing Street last night for a reception hosted by the Prime Minister to celebrate St George’s Day.
It was filled with people who do voluntary work in their community, so it was brilliant to be able to recognise the dedicated work of Wendy and the rest of the Keep Lancing Lovely team who do such a great job of tidying up, promoting recycling and teaching children about the importance of looking after our local environment. Across East Worthing and Shoreham, there are many amazing people who do so much for our community and country. Today we celebrate our shared values and everyone who makes England a wonderful place to live!"

01/ 02/2025 On a cold winter morning the Keep Lancing Lovely team were out putting some warmth and love into the Community! Valentines Day is approaching and beautiful hearts adorn the post box Topper on Station Parade and our pallet tree at Lancing Railway Station! Massive thank you to our knitters for their craft work. We checked and updated our signage inside and outside the Station and tidied around our deep beds near the pavement/car park; and place some bug hotels. Keep Lancing Lovely are Station Partners at Lancing with Southern Trains. There is a Tidy Tuesday on 18th February when we invite you to borrow our kit to undertake your own litter pick between 10am and Noon on Lancing beach. Why not make it a family event? Bring along a picnic and borrow our Treasure Trail Sheet too!
The next last Sunday of the month beach litter pick is February 23rd, signing in on Beach Green from 10am. KeepLancingLovely

A gathering at the A27 Memorial Garden 14 11 2024.
"Though our hearts are heavy with the weight of remembrance, your presence today has been a source of comfort and strength. In this shared space of grief and love, thank you for joining us at The A27 Memorial Garden to honour those who lost their lives. Your being here has made this day a little brighter, and your support means more than words can express.... "
Poems read
"We Can Remember", by former student Blake Waddington
We can remember
We can remember why the bridge was built
We can remember their names
We can remember how they died
We can remember that they are gone; but they are still here
In our minds and hearts
The reason we can remember is this bridge
Our life support
We can remember that the bridge saved many
We can remember how we are lucky and alive
We can remember them
We can remember.
"Solid", by a Staff Member
Solid it stands to serve
For those who want to walk over
Solid, in solace for those who didn't get to.
"Parting Gift", by Casey and Beth, former students
They were 10 who died and many cried
Their friends never got to say their last goodbyes
But most of all those that lost their lives
Got us this bridge that helps us to survive.
There was a fourth poem written for the event and read too. It is only on paper at present but if we can transcribe it we will add it to the post later.
A big thank you to
Mr Davies, Assistant Principal who spoke, Mr Sanderson, Chaplain for the Eulogy and Prayers and students reading poems.
To local District and Parish Councillors attending.
To friends and relatives of those affected.
To former MP Tim Loughton for successfully campaigning with local residents for the bridge that was built in 2003 that makes crossing the road safe.
To the Keep Lancing Lovely volunteers and others who tidy and maintain the garden.
The garden is where Upper Boundstone Lane joins the A27 just north of The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, just below the footbridge. It helps us remember the eleven adults and children who died in road traffic accidents in our immediate area, including five from the former Boundstone Community College.

09 11 2024 In the heart of Lancing this morning, where industry once thrived, a solemn gathering commemorated the fallen heroes of the Lancing Carriage Works, some 93 men who lost their lives fighting for King and Country in WW1 and WW2.
These brave souls, who traded their tools for arms, selflessly defended our nation, their sacrifice etching their names into the annals of history. Three of those heroes had family members with us, bearing the weight of their absence, standing proudly, sharing stories of their courage. We who gathered recognised that their loss is a shared loss, a poignant reminder of the price of freedom. The legacy of these ordinary men who performed extraordinary deeds is forever etched in the collective memory. Their fight for liberty remains the foundation of the peace and prosperity we enjoy today. Amongst all those victims today we particularly remembered Clifford Henry Snuggs, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, RAF Aircraftman 2nd class, Private Herbert John Clist, and Private Harold Dray. It was moving to see the "Dedication of Plaques" paperwork from 74 years ago. If you know any of these men or families please share those details on here. Thank you. #KeepLancingLovely

27 10 2024 A busy weekend for the team and volunteers with two very contrasting weather days!
Saturday was rather wet and cool for the Lancing Village Halloween Trail and Market but all the hard work of the stallholders, support staff, Councillors, shopkeepers and businesses and especially the families taking part in the Halloween Costume Parade made everyone feel warm and cosy. Well done!
Sunday was gloriously sunny for our last Sunday of the month beach litter pick. What a turnout we had, our biggest of the year to date, 33 adults 17 children 2 dogs; litter collected 4kg recycled 20.4kg landfill. Lots of new faces and children litter picking for the first time!
Beach Green was very, very busy this morning with local running events starting/finishing plus their supporters watching.
A big Shout Out to Faith who created the brilliant artwork that you can see in the photos, a real talent there and thank you. Don't Litter - how we agree!
Our supporters over the weekend have been very generous with £38.50 in donations for our Halloween knitted items. A big thanks to the wonderful Keep Lancing Lovely knitters who created them for us!
Do not forget that Tuesday, 29th October we have a Tidy Tuesday event on the beach. Come along between 10am and Noon to borrow our kit to do your own litter pick. Bring your family along and maybe a picnic for afterwards? You can take part in our Treasure Hunt too. Look for the Keep Lancing Lovely team near the toilet block on Beach Green!
